Reception Newsletter

29th November 2024

Dear parents/carers,

We are all wiggling and jiggling our way through to December; the children have been incredible in their efforts during Nativity practice and we are all so proud of you. We would also like to remind parents of the item’s children will need for their nativities and will be sending out a reminder letter this evening.

Religious Education

Religious Education: This week, the children have shared their birthday experiences within their classes. The children were incredibly reflective thinking about sharing that special time with family and or friends. Further to the thinking the children learnt how birthdays are a special day given to us by God and they highlight God’s never-ending love for us.

Home learning task: Begin to talk with your child about the meaning of Christmas and why we choose to celebrate it

Phonics

In the world of phonics: We will continue to work following the Little Wandle scheme. We encourage parents to interact with the Little Wandle webpage to further and deepen their understanding of the process of learning phonics. This week, the children have had a focus on digraphs; within the classroom we have repeated the meaning of the word to help children understand what happens when they see 2 letters together.

Home Learning Task:

At home, please go over this week’s new tricky words: go,

no, to, into, she, push, he and of. These words need to be learned by sight, as they don’t follow typical phonics rules.

Commination, Language and Literacy

In Literacy, the children have consolidated their learning from last week and have begun to focus on the importance of understanding story setting and also story structure. Next week we shall continue this by applying what we have learnt to the story of Christmas.

Home learning task: Continue to read at home with your child. Explore tricky words within their books and encourage them to write a few of these words down too.

Maths

In Maths, we have continued to consolidate our number knowledge whilst also exploring grouping. In the classrooms we have encouraged children to use their reasoning skills to suggest why a group has more or less than the opposing group.

Home learning task: Engage in number-based songs with your child to further immerse them in number.
