Dear Parents / Carers,
This week the children have been spending time practising for their Nativity performance! They are working very hard to say their lines and sing all the songs, we can’t wait for you to see it! They have been thinking about waiting for Jesus’ birthday and what actions we can do while we wait for that special day.
Our Celebration Assembly
Our Stars of the Week are: Raul in St Bernadette Class and Kristiano in St Therese Class.
Our awards for St Mary’s Way go to: Neela in St Bernadette Class and Kamsi in St Therese Class
Religious Education Next week we will be continuing our topic ‘Waiting’. We will be talking about the time of Advent and what we do during this time. The children will make an Advent Wreath and learn about the Annunciation when Angel Gabriel told Mary she was going to have a baby. Home learning: Talk to your child about Advent and why this is a special time. |
Maths Next week, we will continue to look at addition and subtraction. The children will move on to adding/subtracting 1 or 2 from numbers within 10. Home learning: Look at the numbers within 10. Practise how to add and take away 1 or 2 from a given number. Children could use objects to help them. |
English
In our English learning, the children will be continuing to write their Paddington story. They will be building on from their beginning to add a middle part and finally the ending. We will continue to have a focus on sentence structure, capital letters and full stops.
Home Learning: At home ask your child to tell you their Paddington story. Can they speak in full sentences to retell his adventure?

Phonics
Next week the children will continue to be introduced to their new Phase 5 sounds. We will carry on recapping previously learnt sounds and the new Phase 5 ones are introduced each day.
Some of the children will be focussing on the gaps in their phonic knowledge in order to develop their reading and writing skills appropriately. They will be practising how to blend sounds that they know in order to read familiar and unfamiliar words.
Please ensure you are reading daily with your child at home, this is very important and can have a huge impact on the development of your child’s reading. The reading books are matched to the children’s current phonic knowledge and this allows them to apply the sounds that they are learning to their independent reading.
Home Learning: Please look at the video below. This is a guide from Little Wandle that shows you how the children should be pronouncing the sounds they have been taught. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTe5_Em0BHQ
Topmarks is a great website that has lots of fun games for children to play. Try their phonics activities here: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/5-7-years/letters-and-sounds |
