Religious Education: Preparations

Sunday the 24th of November is the last Sunday in the Liturgical year before we begin Advent.

Our Advent topic is Preparations.

We are beginning to write a chapter book entitled ‘The First Christmas.’

Each chapter is of the events of the Christmas Story and we began with ‘The Annunciation’

following with ‘The Visitation’ when Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth and ‘The journey to Bethlehem.’ Do read about these events with your children in the Bible as it will help them to prepare for the true meaning of Christmas.

 Phonics:

We will be revisiting Phase 5 sounds building on the childrens’ phonic awareness and decoding skills.

Spellings to practise are linked to the Phonics scheme:

ea digraph

tea, team, sea, seal, meal, leaf, read, meat, clean, beach, teach

English: Our new book: A Hero Called Wolf

We will begin to write an extended piece of writing of our own version of the story.  The first part of the process is in the planning of the story.

Maths: Shape

We will be learning to recognise 2D and 3D shapes.  We will be focussing on counting sides and vertices (the point where two sides meet.)

The shapes we will be learning about are;

Square, Triangle, Circle, Rectangle, Hexagon, Octagon and a Rhombus.

We will also be learning about the lines of Symmetry on 2D shapes.

There is a video link which is outside this box for you to watch.

Have a good weekend and God bless you and your families.

 The Year 2 Team.
