Dear Parents/Carers,

Our stars of the week are Noah in St Francis and Medha in St Martin.

Our Living in the St Mary’s Way certificate goes to Ann in St Francis class and Lisa in St Martin.

Religious Education: Preparations

Sunday the 1st December is the first Sunday of Advent.  Please point out to your children the Purple vestments and Purple used in the Church to reflect the Season of Advent, a time of repentance and turning back to God in preparation for the birth of His Son Jesus.

We will continue to work on retelling the events of the First Christmas. Our focus this coming week will be on ‘The birth of Jesus’ and The Angels visit the Shepherds.’

We will be looking at consolidating the work we have done this half-term,

Our emphasis will be on Punctuation, writing sentences that make sense and each chapter to have a beginning, middle and end.  We are writing with adjectives and trying to add detail to our writing.

We will be sending home beautiful Advent Books that the children can work through and then keep at home.

Phonics:

We will be revisiting Phase 5 sounds building on the children’s’ phonic awareness and decoding skills.

Spellings to practise are linked to the Phonics scheme:

ou digraph

loud, mouth, cloud, mountain, bounce, sound, doubt, shout, pound, house, mouse, round, count.

English: Our new book: A Hero Called Wolf

We will begin to write an extended piece of writing of our own version of the story.  The first part of the process is in the planning of the story.

Now that we have done the above, we will begin too write the first chapter.

Maths: Shape

We are moving onto learning about 3D Shapes and learning the names of them and their properties.

Firstly, look at shapes that are 2D around your home and see if you can name them for example, a Clock is a Circle.  (Others are Square, Rectangle, Circle, Triangle, Pentagon and Hexagon.)

We are moving onto 3D shapes and to do this you may need to look at the ‘face’ of the shape so for example a cereal box has 6 Rectangular faces and a tin of baked beans which is a Cylinder has 2 Circles.

There is a video link which is outside this box for you to watch.

For your Diary:

Christmas Concert on Thursday 5th December.

Please ensure that your child has a warm coat as we will be walking to Fairfield Halls

Please focus on the words of all the songs that the children will be singing for their Nativity play.

The children have done a great job of learning the script and now we need a final push to ask you to help them articulate their words so that they are loud, clear and slow.

Have a good weekend and God bless you and your families.

 The Year 2 Team.
