Dear Parents,

We have had a wonderful week in school with many celebrations of the talents of the children.

Year 6 Summer Production – ‘Go for Gold’

It was a privilege to watch the Year 6 children perform their summer production on Monday and Tuesday evening. As I said to parents at the end of the final performance, the talents of the children shone through. When you consider that this year group lost a large part of their Key Stage 2 learning because of closures during the covid-19 pandemic, their performances are even more remarkable.

I would like to publicly acknowledge the extra work invested by the Year 6 team over the past few weeks that really allowed the children to shine. In a first, the choreography was the responsbility of the children this year and they did not let us down – well done Nneoma, Breanna, Chloe and Holly.

Parent / Teacher Interviews

It was a productive evening after school on Wednesday when we were able to welcome parents to school to discuss the contents of the end-of-year reports. It was good to hear so many thanks from parents to teachers, who appreciate the positive feedback.

Leavers’ Mass – Year 2

I had the privilege of attending the Year 2 Leavers’ Mass on Tuesday. As one door closes, another opens. We are looking forward to welcoming the wonderful Year 2 children in September.

Fundraising in the Summer Term

The generosity of parents and children in recent weeks has been very clear. We have undertaken a number of fundraising initiatives, culminating in the Summer Fair last Friday afternoon. The current total for money raised is over £2000.

Leavers’ Mass – Year 6

On Tuesday our Year 6 children will come together for Mass at the Church at 11am. Parents of Year 6 children are warmly invited to attend to mark the end of the the children’s time at the Junior School.

Holiday activities offered by Croydon Council

You will have seen posters at the front of the school directing you to places to make enquiries about free holiday activities provided by Croydon Council. The link for the website where all the information is available is:

The Head of School’s award goes to Lily and Chloe, our Head Prefects. Our kindness award this week is awarded to Christina in 4D. The swimmer of the year is Zachary in 4D. Congratulations, Zachary.

End of term dates

Children are in school on Monday and Tuesday next week. Please remember that school closes at 2pm on Tuesday 23rd July. There are no after school clubs on the last day.

Have a peaceful weekend.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew McDonald

Head of School

Health Advice for parents

Coronavirus

The World Health Organisation now considers the covid pandemic to not be a global health emergency. For advice and support if you suspect someone has covid, please visit:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/covid-19/covid-19-symptoms-and-what-to-do/

When using a test, check that it is a recent one that is set up to detect new strains of the virus.

Group A Strep (streptococci)

Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness, but it is highly infectious. Look out for symptoms in your child, which include a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel. On darker skin the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel. Children with these symptoms should not attend school.
