Dear Parents,
We are now in the Season of Advent, and in preparation for the first Sunday this week, we shared our Advent Wreath with the children in Mrs Ottlyk’s assembly on Wednesday morning. The wreath is full of symbolism and as the weeks pass we will talk to the children about each element. We illuminated the first candle this morning in Celebration Assembly.
It has been another week of tempestuous weather in many forms and it is reassuring to see the children arriving in school dressed appropriately. Please make sure that all items are labelled.
Our Christmas Charity
Over many years families in our community have received support from the Catholic Children’s Society. This year we intend to support their work by making a charitable donation from all our Advent and Christmas events.
Year 6 Fundraiser – Sending books to Uganda – Dressing Up Day
It was such fun to see the children all dressed up in character yesterday. It was a simple act to raise funds so that our Year 6 children can afford to send lots of books to Uganda, and it was a great success. The money raised will be used for postage and packing of the books.
Assemblies and Liturgies
Thank-you to the children of Class 5B who presented such a thought-provoking assembly yesterday on the theme of prayer. Many thanks to the parents of children in the class who were able to share the assembly with us.
There will be no assembly next week as the main hall is in use.
Christmas Decoration Competition
Have you bought a decoration yet? The blanks are for sale from the school office.
Advance notice – Infants School Christmas Fair
Please don’t forget to support the Infant Christmas Fair, which takes place a week today, Friday 6th December. It will be lots of fun and all are welcome.
Advance notice – final day of term
The last day of the Autumn Term is Friday 20th December, when the school will close to children at 2.15pm. Please make sure that you have noted this earlier finishing time. There will be no after-school clubs on the final afternoon.
Achievement Certificates
The achievement certificates this week are awarded to Annarosa in 3A, Karmelo in 3E, Zara in 4D, Emilia in 4T, Amelia in 5B, Joel in 5C, Matthew in 6G and Jason in 6P. The Head of School’s award goes to Mia in 4D. The kindness award goes to Govind in 6P.
Have a restful weekend.
Yours faithfully,
Andrew McDonald
Head of School
Coronavirus The World Health Organisation now considers the covid pandemic to not be a global health emergency. For advice and support if you suspect someone has covid, please visit: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/covid-19/covid-19-symptoms-and-what-to-do/ When using a test, check that it is a recent one that is set up to detect new strains of the virus.
Group A Strep (streptococci) Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness, but it is highly infectious. Look out for symptoms in your child, which include a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel. On darker skin the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel. Children with these symptoms should not attend school. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-safely-with-respiratory-infections-including-covid-19 |
