Headteacher's Newsletter

Friday 26th June 2026

Dear Families,

As we come to the end of another busy week, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our entire school community.

The exceptionally hot weather has certainly presented us with a number of challenges. We have had to make changes to planned events, keep children indoors during breaks and lunchtimes and adapt our routines to ensure everyone remained safe. Throughout it all, your understanding, flexibility and support have been greatly appreciated. Thank you for working with us so positively and therefore ensuring your children remain safe.

A special congratulations goes to the children who represented St Mary's at the Athletics Event on Monday. They were outstanding ambassadors for our school, demonstrating determination, resilience, excellent sportsmanship and great encouragement towards one another. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our community.

I would also like to say how proud I have been of all our children this week. They have coped admirably with the uncomfortable conditions and the unavoidable changes to our usual routines. They have looked after one another with kindness, followed instructions to stay safe in the heat and accepted changes with maturity and understanding. They have truly been a shining example of everything St Mary's stands for, living out our values through their actions each day.

Finally, my sincere thanks go to our wonderful staff. They have worked tirelessly in very challenging conditions, adapting lessons, supervising indoor activities and ensuring every child remained safe, cared for and happy. Their dedication and commitment to our children never ceases to amaze me.

This Sunday's Gospel (Matthew 16:13-19) reminds us of Jesus' words to Peter: "You are Peter, and I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven." Peter was entrusted with a great responsibility because Jesus saw in him faith, commitment and a willingness to serve others. This week, I have seen those same qualities reflected throughout our school community. Families have supported one another, staff have served with generosity and compassion and our children have shown kindness, responsibility and resilience. Together, we have demonstrated that a strong community is built not on perfect circumstances but on people who care for one another when challenges arise.

As we look ahead, let us continue to unlock opportunities to show love, service and hope in all that we do.

I wish you all a peaceful, restful and hopefully much cooler weekend.
